Technology Project Report

today we reviewed the report and did our final calculation to see how much is the total heat energy is used by the ICE and the Steam Turbine

EXHAUST HEAT

AFTER DESIGNING THE BOILER WE WHERE TRYING TO CALCULATE HOW MUCH HEAT "IN NUMBERS" IS COMING OUT THROUGH THE EXHAUST.
WE USED TWO METHODS OF CALCULATION, BUT THE RESULTS DID NOT MATCH, THEREFORE WE WENT TO SEE "GERRY HAMILTON " AND SHOW HIM THE CALCULATIONS .
THE PETROL HEAT CONTENT VALUE THAT WE USED WAS WRONG, AFTER USING THE CORRECT VALUE NOW BOTH METHODS ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.
HEAT OUT RATE FROM THE EXHAUST IN OUR EXPERIMENT IS FROM 2071kj/min TO 2467 kj/min.
FROM THE CALCULATION IT SHOWS THAT THIS HEAT ENERGY CAN CONVERT 5 LITER OF WATER @ 95ºC TO STEAM @120ºC IN ABOUT 20 MINUTE.

Solidworks learning

we spent some time in the holiday to learn new software which we might be able to use to apply our project and use it in our next presentation.

Wednesday, 8 June 2011

it was good to talk to our supervisor about the boiler design, the idea now is to split the exhaust pipe into many small pipes that can go through the boiler to increase the heat transfer area, in the same time the cross sectional area of the small pipes must be the same as the original pipe to make sure that there is no restriction is add to exhaust system.

Power splitting device

we have designed a thermal operated clutch ( engaging and releasing mechanism) with a friction plate, after showing Niranjan the design we discussed the benefit of using the friction plate clutch,
it is not a On Off clutch in this type the power transfer rate can be indefinite depending on percentage of clutch release, that allows a smooth engagement thus smooth power transfer.

CLOSED CIRCUIT STEAM ENGINE

AFTER OUR VISIT TO THE MUSEUM YESTERDAY, THIS IS WHAT I WAS DOING THIS MORNING, I WAS TRYING TO DRAW A CLOSED CIRCUIT FOR A STEAM ENGINE
PLEASE VIEW AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK
